All moms and dads are excited to see their kid play in a game, but Andrew and his coaches have taught us to be even more enthusiastic about Practice! Practice is where Mia got in her reps, learned about nutrition and grew stronger. A few short years of Practice – the Industry way – and our daughter was transformed from an average kid to a top player with the skills to start on a team ranked #5 in the nation.
It’s so obvious looking back, but coming into Andrew’s club we had many questions. Why are they so focused on nutrition? What’s the big deal about warm ups? Why do they break down skills into small movements, and practice over and over? Why don’t they play more and talk less? We never signed up for all this!? We just want our daughter to play volleyball and have some fun.
Back then, we had no idea that this club would change all our lives for the better.
We gave it some time. Mia got the volleyball bug and never missed a practice. Literally, 6 or 7 days a week, consistently. She wasn’t always “happy” on the ride home but she was engaged. Her mind was in the game. Her volleyball IQ was rising. She started eating well and got strong. Really strong. She helped coach the younger kids and got plenty of free professional coaching in return.
You know what my wife and I did to make all this happen for our daughter? Nothing! Mia put in the time. She gave 100%. And her coaches put in their time and gave 110% back. They built the coach-player relationship together. We just drove.
Fast forward … last august we moved to San Diego. Because of Mia’s foundational training from Industry she got a spot on Coast 15-1s team. FYI, coast has nine 15s teams. She was chosen over dozens of other girls who had played longer for the best clubs in SoCal. Not because of her past record, or how much game time she got, or any negotiating on my part — but because she was trained to perform at her best. She walked on the court and took care of business.
We were so proud.
As parents we just wanted her to have fun, what we got was a nationally recognized player on the road to scholarships and an awesome Division 1 college career. Totally unexpected. Totally worth it. Thank You Andrew, Meghan, Laurel & Ari! We will always be a part of your team!
Update: Mia is now playing for full athletic scholarship at San Jose St University playing under new head coach Trent Kersten (former UCLA standout player and IndustryVBC coach). And has already helped them achieve their best season ever and put them in the top of their conference.
